A lovely plunge pool built into the Mahindu stream amidst overhanging figs and vines is fed by natural hot water springs. Walks range from gentle strolls to challenging hikes, and there are excellent riding trails for both novices and the more experienced.

Farm animals

Children and adults often enjoy participating in the milking of the Malu dairy cows, feeding the horses and petting the Donkeys. There are also chickens and ducks to feed, eggs to be collected and rabbits to play with.

Walks

There are some scenic walks in the cedar forest, up to the ridge and down to the streams and rivers of Malu. Guided walks can also be arranged.

Bird Watching

The Malu Forest and farm provide superb bird watching opportunities.

Forest and Ridge Walks and Trails

There are a number of loops in the forest to suit levels of energy and time available ranging from a leisurely stroll without too much gradient, to more serious hikes to the top of the escarpment. Mountain biking and guided runs are also offered.

The Plunge Pool

One of the farm’s walks leads to this little oasis which is about 2km (1.2 miles) from the lodge – guests can drive there (4x4), or a guide can lead the way. The warm water pours in from the surrounding rocks, making it a beautiful temperature (25 degrees Centigrade or 78 degrees Fahrenheit) for a quick dip.

Horse and Donkey Riding

This is a wonderful area for riding, and guests can ride at most times of the day due to the shade provided by the forest, although early morning and late afternoon are best. There are 6 trusty steeds and 3 donkeys and some are good for beginners and children. The maximum weight for a horse ride is 13 stone (185 lbs, 82 kg).
