Thatched Bandas at Greystoke Mahale

This Tanzania lodge offers six stylish thatched bandas, each raised slightly on decking and set back into the vegetation, peek out onto on a white sandy beach.

All the beds at this Tanzania lodge are under mosquito netting and the tent has lovely wooden furniture and special touches: such as kikois for the beach, bowls to wash the sand from your feet, bath and beach towels and comfortable loungers to enjoy the view.

Each stylish double-storey wooden banda has a raised viewing deck with day-beds, and links into a private bathroom where there is a flush toilet and a hot shower. The focal point of Greystoke Mahale is the bar and dining area loosely modelled on traditional Tongwe architecture rising up from the sand.

This has recently been extended, and the upstairs area, with its rare books and specialist primate library, now has four decks that look out to every point of the compass, and are the perfect vantage points to sit and appreciate this incredible place on your Tanzania safari. Off to one side, amongst the vegetation and rocks, is a separate sunset bar –the perfect spot for star-gazing and enjoying cocktails. Dinner can be taken in the tented dining area or barefoot on the beach.
