Getting There

Most tourists to Mozambique arrive via South Africa, either by air from Johannesburg or by road on overland tours or self-drive safaris. Daily flights from Johannesburg into Maputo carry most fly-in tourists. Other international airlines also have regular flights into Maputo.

Flights from Johannesburg to towns further north such as Pemba and Vilanculos access the beaches and islands of the remote regions of the country.

Self-drive visitors generally arrive from South Africa at a number of crossing points. A popular self-drive route is accessing Mozambique from a Kruger Park safari. Border crossings from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and now Tanzania are also an option for the self-drive visitor.
