African Safari Vacation Package to Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most unique places on earth where wildlife flourishes on the rich grasses of the crater floor. Herbivores abound under the watchful eye of predators and flamingoes colour the lake pink as they feed in the nutrient-rich waters. The Ngorongoro Crater is the best place to view the Big 5 in Tanzania.
Because of the availability of nutrient-rich food and sufficient water throughout the year most of the African wildlife species stay permanently in the Ngorongoro Crater. It is a game viewing paradise throughout the year. Game drives in the crater with experienced guides reveal a world unlike any other.
The Crater is in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, so it is not unusual to spot the legendary Maasai people grazing their cattle. In fact, no Ngorongoro Safari is complete without a walk with a Maasai guide on the crater rim. Cultural interactions with the Maasai are also a highlight of a Ngorongoro Safari.
Best time to travel to the Ngorongoro Crater
As most of the African wildlife stays year round in the Ngorongoro Crater the game viewing is spectacular at any time of the year.
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area can be accessed by light aircraft from the safari capital of Tanzania, Arusha, or by road direct from Arusha or as part of a northern Tanzania safari circuit.
To get to Arusha there are flights into Kilimanjaro International Airport [approximately 1hr drive from Arusha] or a road transfer from Nairobi.
