Zambia is a landlocked country which means there is no surrounding ocean. The country consists of rocky outcrops and open savannah. Obviously the main feature is Victoria Falls - a World Heritage Site.

Where to see the Big Five

The South Luangwa National Park is seen as the best place for wildlife viewing in Zambia. Of the Big Five (Leopard, Lion, Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo), the Leopard is the hardest to find. South Luangwa is ideal, because here you can get some of the best Leopard sightings.

Kafue National Park

Not only is this National Park beautiful, but it's wonderful for fishing and bird watching. The prolific wildlife species here is Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, Lion, and antelope, Sable, Zebra and Cheetah. There are a number of camps and lodges located in this park.

South Luangwa National Park

This National Park offers some of the best game viewing in Africa. Dramatic scenery, beautiful rivers and amazing landscape make up your views. During guided walks, boat trips and game drives you will see the amazing species of wildlife. The greatest Elephant and antelope concentrations in Zambia can be found in Luangwa.

Other forms of prolific wildlife include Hippo, Zebra, Kudu, Cookson's Wildebeest, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, Lion, Giraffe, monkeys, wild dogs and large numbers of Nile Crocodile. The birdlife includes over 400 species of birds. This National Park consists mainly of private luxury lodges.

North Luangwa National Park

This is a true wilderness area if you are looking for one. This is the 'real Africa experience'.

The Park is filled with lovely rivers and a series of waterfalls. Wildlife inhabiting this Park is Buffalo, Lion, Elephant, Impala, Leopard, Wild Cat, Hyena, Wildebeest, Bushbuck, Kudu, Puku, Zebra, Baboon, Warthog and Vervet Monkey.

There is a large variety of antelope and bird life.

Lochinvar National Park

Lochinvar is a small park with the best bird sightings. Here you will find those rare species you haven't seen yet. Here you will also find Ngwisho Hot Springs, which is the site of one of the oldest archaeological sites in Central Africa.

Nsumbu National Park

In this park you can enjoy eighty kilometres of Lake Tanganyika's most beautiful shores. The area is well known for Hippo, Crocodile, Flamingo and other water birds. In a motorboat you can enjoy some great fishing. Other species of wildlife include a variety of antelope, Zebra, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard and 350 species of bird.

Mosi-oa-tunya National Park

Alternative known by its English name as Victoria Falls National Park. Mosi-oa-tunya - 'the smoke that thunders' is the local name for Victoria Falls. The Park is home to Sable, Eland, Giraffe, Buffalo, Zebra, Wildebeest, Kafue Lechwe, Impala, Warthog, Baboon, and Vervet monkey.

Kasanka National Park

Kasanka is Zambia's smallest and most attractive National Park. The topography is amazing. There are eight lakes and four rivers, perfect for the avid fisherman. Wildlife in the area include Elephant, Hippo, Sable, Bushbuck, Reedbuck, Waterbuck, Hyena, Warthog, Baboon, Jackal, Leopard and the rare blue monkey. Accommodation facilities include a few camps.

Lower Zambezi National Park

Only 100kms from Victoria Falls is the Lower Zambezi National Park. Here you can see Elephant, Hippo, Buffalo, Zebra, Lion, Cheetah and Leopard, as well as a variety of birds. Activities include game drives, walks, canoe safaris, fishing and bird watching. There are one or two budget camps and a few luxury camps.
