Zambia Safari Guide | Elephant-back Safaris

Elephant Back Safari - Stanley Safari Lodge

From the back of an Elephant you can see for miles and game viewing is a much more natural experience, also you won't spook the wildlife. Elephant Back Safaris in Zambia are offered at Victoria Falls from within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

It is a remarkable thing to ride on an Elephant - but is that really what this opportunity is all about? The answer is no! At this Zambian national park you will meet Madinda, Marula, Bop, Liwa, Mashumbi, Danny and Chavaruka plus the babies of the herd Nandi and Sekuti. The bonds you create and wisdom you gain from the sessions is potentially life changing.

In the time you spend with the herd you will get insight into their individual characters and personalities. The babies are of course a delight to watch as they gambol about, learning and exploring. You'll be able to interact on a very personal level with the Elephants and enjoy the amazing feeling of being on the back of one as you all amble through the bushveld together.

The Experience

This unique experience usually includes return transfers from your Zambian accommodation to the Elephant boma at Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and refreshments at the end of the ride. The Elephant Back Safaris take place in the early morning and late afternoon, with other types of interactions occurring during the day at various times. All encounters are preceded by a short introductory talk and safety briefing.

On an Elephant Back Safari you will discover a whole new perspective from the high vantage point and that your presence on the Elephant is not a threat to other animals - you will get closer to the game than ever before. You will be able to personally interact with the Elephants and watch them as they eat, socialise and play or even swim. Only the adult Elephants can carry one or 2 passengers and the baby Elephants always accompany the herd. The safaris are fully guided and each Elephant is under the charge of an experienced handler.
