Stay at Udzungwa Forest Camp

You can now visit the Udzungwa Mountains knowing that you will be looked after. At this Tanzania safari lodge (known locally as Hondo Hondo) you will have a comfortable, peaceful night before and after your adventures in the Park.

At this Tanzania safari lodge there are upmarket tented suites with open-air bathrooms, traditional thatched huts and great camping facilities (equipment hire). Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp provides a high standard of accommodation overlooking the forest canopy. Groups and kids adventure groups are welcome.

Guests at Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp enjoy an excellent level of service from friendly lodge staff. Top highlights include the wonderful atmosphere and food which visitors always comment on. There is an attractive fire pit surrounded by comfortable natural seating, and the village drumming group can be requested for an evening of live entertainment.

Meals can be served under the stars, on your private veranda or in the new cosy 'Canopy Bar'. The new Canopy Bar, situated in a beautiful clearing on the edge of the rainforest, looking out at the rainforest canopy and providing a wonderful place to have a sundowner and watch the colobus monkeys and hornbills in the trees. The lodge can provide full board, picnics in the park and essential snack foods, cold beer and wine, spirits, soft drinks etc for purchase. For groups, Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp offers the option of an amazing spit-roast!

Forest En-suite Tents

This Tanzania safari lodge has 6 en-suite tents for guests requiring well-appointed accommodation in the forest. Each is furnished with items made from renewable sources such as coconut wood and bamboo. Each en-suite tent has a newly completed stone floor in its outdoor bathroom. The beds are comfortable single or double spring mattresses, feather pillows and soft throws made by local women weavers. The open-air bathrooms (with western style flush toilets and rain showers) and the secluded verandas offer views up into the nearby forest canopy, Hot water is provided by a Solar heating system.

As a back-up (in case of heavy rains and little sun) elevated bucket showers are used. Electric lighting is provided throughout the camp with low-energy LED bulbs, and each tent is equipped with lighting, personal solar reading lights and a socket for charging phones, cameras etc.

Traditional Thatched Huts

For those who prefer to keep costs down, Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp offers 5 traditional Thatched Huts. Comfortably furnished, well maintained and spacious, these double rooms offer a unique and exciting alternative to tented camping or staying in an everyday hotel room. Homely and well equipped, the huts are each furnished with double beds and mosquito nets.

This is a great budget option for those who fancy something a little out of the ordinary, and who enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest at night. The huts lie on a rise overlooking the main lodge and feature views out across the Kilombero Valley. They are shaded by the forest edge which is popular with Trumpeter Hornbills and the striking Black and White Colobus Monkey.

Camping

For those who do not have their own camping gear, Udzungwa Forest Tented Camp can hire out all the necessary equipment. The attractive camp site is 300 metres from the road with stunning views across the Udzungwa Mountains forest canopy and the Kilombero Valley.

Guests will find well-kept showers with solar hot water on demand, western-style toilets, a bar / restaurant and a fire pit with comfortable natural seating for evening relaxation. The site is looked after by friendly and helpful English and Swahili-speaking staff.
