Safari at Richards River Camp

Situated in the Masai Mara National Reserve, Richard’s River Camp offers a range of guided game viewing activities including 4x4 game drives and bush walks.

More of the Mara

Guided game drives top the agenda at Richard’s River Camp which amble through the northern reaches of the Masai Mara, Kenya's flagship conservation region: a place of rolling plains, bush scrub and acacia thicket— known for the seasonal Great Migration. These depart in the early morning and late afternoon when the sun is not as fierce and the energy levels of animals are at their highest.  With an experienced driver-guide and tracker at your side, you’ll quickly come across prides of lion, whooping hyenas, herds of African tuskers, and brooding buffalos.

Let the Bush Walks Begin

While we all love our game drives, there is a certain magic about trekking on foot through the African bush. At Richard’s River Camp you can embark on walking safaris led by experienced (and armed) trackers who will not only impart their skills of tracking, but will also open you up to the smaller details of the bush that an untrained eye would miss. Since the walks are less intrusive (no roaring engine), it’s also a ripe opportunity for avid bird watchers to tick off a few more bird sightings.

A Feast Fit for a King

We’re listing meals at Richard’s River Camp as an activity because each is very much a unique experience that is carefully planned by the staff. The cuisine alone is an adventure in its own right, and the attentive service and various settings certainly make an impact. Think candle-lit bush dinners, breakfast amongst the birds and hearty feasts served around the roaring fire.

A Few More Activities

While staying at Richard’s River Camp we can also arrange a few additional activities along with your game drives and bush walks. Romantics should opt for the once-in-a-lifetime hot air balloon experience which includes a champagne breakfast on the Mara plains. To inject a bit more culture into your itinerary, we highly recommend a visit to the nearby Masai village.
