Malawi Safari Package Overview
During this tour of the southern regions of Malawi, you can experience contrasting areas of bush, beach and mountainous landscapes. From the changing vegetation to the diversity of wildlife, this tour will take you to the best of southern Malawi in only 10 days. From Liwonde National Park's herds of Elephant, Buffalo, Lichtenstein's Hartebeest, Zebra, and Hippo, to Lake Malawi's freshwater fish, wildlife encounters on this tour will remain unmatched.
Day 1: Lilongwe, MalawiUpon arrival at Lilongwe International Airport in Malawi's capital city, you will be welcomed by a tour representative and escorted to Kumbali Country Lodge. Situated on a working dairy farm, the lodge offers a variety of outdoor activities that allow you to explore the region.Your stay at this Malawi lodge will keep you enthralled in the wonder of Lilongwe during activities such as cultural village visits, bird watching, walking safaris, tours of the dairy farm, boat trips on Lake Malawi, and game drives in the national parks. For a break from the exhilarating activities, you can relax at the poolside with a cocktail or indulge in culinary delights served by the on-site restaurant.
Days 2 & 3: Zomba MountainContinue along the Great African Rift as you go on a road transfer southwards to Zomba Mountain. The region has landscapes of forest adorned by refreshing streams and waterfalls. You will be accommodated at Ku Chawe Inn. Explore the Zomba Plateau in a safari vehicle, on a mountain bike, or by foot. The safari takes you to a trout farm, various waterfalls and eventually ends at Chingwe's Hole - a cavern at the edge of the plateau.
Other tours include the Zomba Tour, Potato Trail, the scenic vistas from Nawimbe Peak, and day trips into Liwonde National Park. Wildlife species likely to be spotted include Elephant, Hippo, Crocodile, Antelope, Impala and a prolific list of birdlife.
Days 4 - 6: Liwonde National ParkView LodgeYour journey continues to Mvuu Lodge, situated on the banks of a lagoon that adjoins the Shire River of Liwonde National Park. Wildlife that roams the park freely includes large Elephant herds, Waterbuck, Hippo, Reedbuck, and Buffalo.
Game viewing options are endless ranging from land excursions to water-based safaris. Nature walks are the ideal time to view the prolific birdlife and to track spoor with the help of a trained guide. Game drives in Liwonde National Park take place during the morning or during special night drives that aim to expose the nocturnal bush life. A highlight of your stay at Mvuu Lodge is the special game drives into the Rhino Sanctuary, where attempts are being made to conserve the Black Rhino. River safaris cruise into thrilling sightings of Hippo, Elephant, and Crocodile.
Days 7 - 9: Mumbo Island View LodgeA road transfer to Cape Maclear will deliver you to a choice between a kayak or boat transfer to Mumbo Island Camp. This beach retreat offers you a list of water-based activities ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. Dive into the crystal-clear waters of Lake Malawi on a snorkeling or scuba diving excursion, float above its abundant fish life during a sea kayaking trip, or simply go swimming in the safe waters surrounding Mumbo Island.
The island boasts a variety of hiking trails that are safe to explore without a guide. While venturing through the wilderness, keep your eyes and ears open for glimpses of the abundant birdlife. Your stay at this safari lodge will be private, secluded and synonymous to nature as it remains unpopulated by humans.
Day 10: LilongweDepart from Mumbo Island in a road transfer of approximately 3 - 4 hours. Upon arrival in Lilongwe, you will be dropped at the airport, where you will meet your onward travel arrangements.
