Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit
Tanzania is a land blessed with the most dramatic wilderness areas on the African continent - and arguably the most recognized names in African safari. In fact it can be said that the iconic names of Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Kilimanjaro go far beyond the safari - they are also the most recognized names worldwide coming out of the Africa.
The tourism industry of Tanzania has revolved around these iconic destinations and it is true to say that of all the great African safari destinations, those of Tanzania's legendary Northern Safari Circuit are of the very few that can sell themselves on reputation alone.
Take the canvas for the 'greatest show on earth' of the Serengeti plains, add the eden-blueprint of the Ngorongoro Crater and Africa's highest mountain in Kilimanjaro and you have an African safari that is not matched anywhere else on the continent.
Besides these iconic destinations the the Northern Tanzania Safari Circuit is also home to incredible reserves such as Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara National Park where the spectacle of more than a million flamingoes can be seen feeding in the shallows.
A place called Arusha
Situated in the foothills of Mount Meru Arusha is the central point for safaris in the northern circuit of Tanzania. A place of immense charm Arusha is a tourist attraction in itself with game viewing in the Arusha National Park, hiking, birding and cultural interactions with a number of the local people in Tanzania. In close proximity to all the parks Arusha is the main safari hub of Tanzania.
The snows of Kilimanjaro
Africa's highest point and the world's highest free-standing mountain Kilimanjaro is one of the most photographed sites in Africa. Rising into the sky from the vast plains of Africa there can be no more dramatic site than the snow capped peak watching over the land. The majority of visitors experience Kilimanjaro from the plains surrounding the great mountain but there are the intrepid adventurers who attempt to climb the legend that is Kilimanjaro.
The great wildebeest migration of the Serengeti
The vast savannahs of the Serengeti National Park play host to the Great Wildebeest Migration, known as the greatest show on earth, where almost two million animals wander the plains in search of food and water. But there is far more to the Serengeti than the migration - it is home to countless non-migratory animals, ensuring an unforgettable safari throughout the year.
Ngorongoro Crater - the blueprint of paradise
Much has been written about the unique features of the Ngorongoro Crater, where an explosion millennia ago created a hole in the ground where thousands of animals now live, but it is only when in the crater that the true drama of the Ngorongoro can be appreciated. It is here where more than twenty thousand animals live all year round.
Best time to visit the Northern Safari Circuit of Tanzania
The Northern Tanzania safari circuit is a year round destination, with dramatic wildlife encounters to be seen throughout the seasons. For the best chance of experiencing the great wildebeest migration the months of January to July are the best times to visit the Serengeti. The Ngorongoro crater however can be visited all year round for dramatic sightings.
