Location of Mkulumadzi, Majete Wildlife Reserve

Surrounded by 7 000 hectares of private concession in the Majete Wildlife Reserve in Malawi, Mkulumadzi enjoys an idyllic location at the confluence of two rivers shaded by giant leadwood trees.

Located in the south of the country close to the city of Blantyre, Majete Wildlife Reserve in Malawi is part of Africa's Great Rift Valley. Mkulumadzi Lodge on the Shire River is close to Kapichira Falls within Majete Wildlife Reserve.

Covering an area of 70 000 hectares, Majete Wildlife Reserve in Malawi is made up of mature miombo woodlands and granite topped hills which contrast with picturesque river valleys and lush riverine forest.

Majete is one of the outstanding success stories of African conservation. After decades of rampant poaching and under investment, the reserve has been rejuvenated through specific programmes of improvement.

The reintroduction of more than 3 000 animals from other areas of Malawi and neighbouring countries began in 2003 and included Black Rhino, Elephant, Buffalo, Eland, Kudu, Zebra, Warthog, Sable, Waterbuck, Impala, Lichtenstein's Hartebeest and Leopard. A Malawi safari holiday at Mkulumadzi helps to support a sustainable wildlife reserve, providing income for local communities and encouraging further conservation projects.

Climate

Mkulumadzi can be visited year-round though there are two distinct seasons, each offering a different experience. The winter months from April - September are cooler and drier, making this the most comfortable time of year to visit.

Game sightings are easier and wildlife gathers around water sources. The summer months from October - March are warm and wet. This is the best time for lush scenery, photography and birding.
