This Tanzania safari lodge is an intimate seasonal tented camp, set in a delightful ancient Acacia forest on the crater rim next to the quiet Lemala access route. Very often, game drives are taken in solitude for almost 2 hours in the best morning light before the traffic builds up. Lemala Ngorongoro guests thus enjoy longer and significantly higher quality game drives.
Game drives from the camp can depart early and it only takes 15 minutes to descend to the crater floor - the scenery is stunning and the wildlife abundant. The experienced guides at Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp have expert local knowledge and they are passionate about making every Tanzania safari here extraordinary.
A resident family of Elephant can be seen almost daily from the camp as they forage in the red-thorn Acacia forest surrounding Lemala Ngorongoro Tented Camp. Buffalo usually visit the camp late at night and then disappear deeper into the forest in the early morning.
The Ngorongoro Crater has a vast central bowl where the largest permanent concentration of African game is on display. The views from the rim of the crater wall are absolutely breathtaking. The crater walls are forested but Lemala's specially equipped 4x4 vehicles take guests down into this primeval paradise of woodland, lake, river, swamp and plain that is home to around 40 000 animals.
Many of these are the large grazing animals such as Wildebeest, Buffalo, Gazelle and Zebra who depend on the open grasslands in the crater. These attract the attendant predators, the Black-Maned Lion, the Leopard and Hyena. The Elephant found within the caldera tend to be lone males who have left the herds in the forested crater rim.
