The Okavango Delta is the world's largest inland delta. Situated in the north west of Botswana with the Moremi Game Reserve on its northern border, the Okavango Delta covers over 15 000 square kilometres, and is one of Botswana's most popular tourist destinations.
Home to an abundance of African wildlife that all flock to the water to drink, the Okavango Delta is a popular safari destination and the ideal location for a rather unusual safari experience, an Elephant Safari.
On arrival at Abu camp you can spend a bit of time relaxing and settling in to your accommodation. Lunch and high tea are served before the fun really begins and you are taken to meet the Elephants who will be your guides and friends for the duration of your safari.
Throughout your safari you will be able to interact with the Elephants, learning about their behaviors and social structures. Should you decide to give your gigantic new friend a break for the day, game-drive vehicles are also available for guided game viewing game drives.
Alternatively guests can also enjoy a mokoro excursion, being poled slowly across the water by your local guide as you see Crocodiles slink into the water, or a Giraffe bending down elegantly, to drink.
Some days you may even find yourselves out throughout the morning, stopping for a picnic under a tree. While you enjoy your picnic lunch in the shade, the Elephants munch at the palms trees nearby before you back to the lodge in the late afternoon.
If you want to be close to nature and to gain an authentic experience of the African bush there is no better way than being accompanied by the friendly Abu herd next to you.Contact our Botswana Destination Specialists for Elephant Safari Package options.
