Indigenous trees surround the elevated swimming pool and deck. Guests can relax here and order refreshments from the bar which is open all day. Premium spirits, imported wines from the lodge cellar and other popular beverages are offered from the well stocked bar. Alternately, those in search of a cosy spot can enjoy the library and reading room while on a Kenya vacation at Finch Hattons. There is a varied selection of books also contemporary and classical music, including Mozart classics favoured by Denys Finch Hatton after whom the lodge is named.

There are no fences around the lodge, so a wide variety of animals are free to come and go as they choose. Hippo can be seen around the spring pools, also Crocodile and Terrapins. On game drives guests can see Elephant, Buffalo and Wildebeest, Giraffe, Eland and many more antelope species as well as other game. Birdlife is also very good, with over 200 species recorded locally.

Game drives set off 3 times daily in specially adapted open 4x4 safari vehicles with professional guides. The nature walks are also escorted. Sundowners and bush breakfasts can be arranged on request. Exclusive use of a safari vehicle is also available by prior request.

For a day excursion, guests can arrange in advance with the lodge, for a journey to Amboseli National Park, Kenya which is a 2 and a half hour drive away. Amboseli is also known for its large Elephant herds, and for the great views of Mt Kilimanjaro.

Just an easy hour’s drive from Finch Hattons is Mzima Springs. This gushing supply of fresh and crystal clear water has created a haven for wildlife. The springs are home to several pods of Hippo, Crocodile and shoals of Barbell and Catfish. Visitors can see below the water surface of Mzima from a specially constructed underwater observatory.
