Water Activities at Mumbo Island

From kayaking to snorkelling and diving to see the veritable aquarium of tropical fish or just reading and snoozing in hammocks, Mumbo Island offers activities for everyone on the beautiful Lake Malawi.

Kayaking

Mumbo Island specializes in kayaking tours, a great way to explore the many interesting inlets and islands around the area. Lake Malawi is known as the calendar lake as it is 365km long and 52km wide. The lodge focuses on non motorised boating activities to be eco friendly.

Snorkelling and Diving

It has one of the most diverse eco systems in the world with over 500 species of Cichilds. It is because of this abundant aquatic life, that Lake Malawi has some of the most diverse dive sites in the world. At Mumbo Island, guests can go snorkelling or scuba diving and discover this fascinating underwater world.

Birding

Mumbo Island offers fantastic opportunities for birding enthusiasts with over 100 species waterfowl and other birds that are attracted to the lake, including the majestic African Fish-Eagle, whose haunting cry is for many the sound of Africa. Trumpeter Hornbills, African Paradise-Flycatchers and Cormorants are often seen.
