For at least 6 months of the year, much of the area is inaccessible because of the heavy summer rains that cause swollen rivers and extensive flooding. Despite this drastic change in climate, the area remains a wildlife hotspot.
The plains of the Kafue National Park are roamed by Red Lechwe, Puku, Sable, herds of Zebra and Buffalo, and prides of Lion and Cheetah, to mention only a few.
